I’m so passionate about the 21 Day Fix program because I’ve seen the amazing results that it can have for people, including myself! These are my “one-year” progress pictures! For the majority of this past year, I have been following the 21 Day Fix nutrition system and seen absolutely AMAZING results! I am so thrilled, not only for myself, but also for the incredible results that my clients have gotten from this program as well!
The wonderful ladies who have done this program in my 21 Day Fitness & Nutrition Focus Groups with me have lost anywhere from 6-12 lbs, IN THREE WEEKS, just by following the workouts and nutrition guide in this program!
I’m not going to spend much time on the workout aspect of it, because what I know I was most concerned with was the FOOD aspect! I mean, have you seen my blog? Clearly, I enjoy my food! And I know that a lot of you are probably the same way. I will just say, that the workouts are amazing. And I wanted to give you a general idea of what they consist of, so let’s get to that first…
There’s such a great variety of workouts (total body, upper body, lower body, cardio, pilates, yoga…) and moves that your muscles will constantly be in a state of confusion, resulting in some serious toning! Yes, you WILL see a difference in muscle definition within your first round of this program. I know that might be hard to believe, but it’s true! The first week you’re going to be struggling through the workouts, thinking ‘How the heck am I going to do this?!’. Your muscles will be sore and you will be out of breath. But then the second week, you’re going to notice that you’re able to go further in the workout without having to stop to catch your breath. And by the 3rd week, you might even be ready to increase your weights! It really can happen that quickly. All you need to do is be willing to push yourself through those 30 minute workouts and give them your all! Yes, I said 30 minutes…ONLY 30 minutes. And that includes a warm up and a cool down at the end! So they go by very quickly!
You’ll want to have a couple sets of hand weights to use, as some moves require a lighter pair versus others requiring a heavy pair! I started out with 5lb and 8lb weights, but if you’re really a beginner and haven’t worked out in a long time, I’m going to suggest starting off with maybe 3lb and 5lb and working your way up! Don’t be afraid to challenge yourself, but you also want to make sure that you’re able to maintain proper form! You can do a quick test at the store when you go to pick out your weights. Try doing a few overhead presses and see how you feel. If you can barely do a few, they are probably too heavy to start out with! You’ll also want to have a yoga mat or a large towel handy as many of the routines contain floor exercises as well as higher impact options, so having a more cushioned surface is really helpful! Especially if you have hard floors to begin with like I do!
The good news is, you really don’t need much space at all! In fact, the distance between your couch and your TV should work just fine! Just make sure that you can do a few shuffle steps in each direction and that you can comfortable lunge in the space that you have!
So that’s all I’ll say on the workouts for now. I want to move onto the food. If you’re going to make it through this program and see results, there’s one thing that you MUST be willing to do.
Yes, you must be willing to eat. And you must be willing to eat quite a bit! Does that surprise you? It surprised me too!
The reason that you and I are so surprised by the fact that a WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAM requires us to actually EAT a lot of food is because we’ve had it drilled into our heads that we need to ‘watch what we eat’ and eat less in order to lose weight.
I’m happy to say that’s not the case. And 21 Day Fix is going to help you get over that mindset. It’s going to teach you how to eat MORE but do so in a healthy way, which will enable you to lose more weight. Does that make sense?
Let me break it down a little more for you, because I know it was hard for me to understand too!
You’re going to be eating more in order to lose more weight. The reason this works is because you’re going to be fueling your body with a constant supply of high quality food and nutrition. Your body NEEDS this steady food supply in order to function. When you don’t eat enough food, or you don’t eat regularly enough, your metabolism is actually going to slow down on you.
The 21 Day Fix teaches you how to properly space out your meals and lays out exactly how much you should be eating of what types of food. In other words, it completely takes the guess work out of trying to figure out how to eat healthy.
I’m sure you’ve seen the pictures of the ‘portion control containers’ by now. If you’re anything like I was, you’re going to look at those containers and be like ‘oh no, those are tiny! I need more than that!’, or you might say ‘I don’t want to have to follow a restrictive diet; I want to be able to enjoy food still’. Whichever worry you might have, I promise you that you’re honestly worrying for no reason. First of all, the portion control containers are for a single serving of each ‘food group’. You get MULTIPLE servings of these containers throughout the day.
Trust me, some of them you’ll actually wish you had less servings of because you’ll already have so much food to eat. I know that sounds crazy, but it’s TRUE. And for those of you worrying about not getting to eat food that you enjoy, I’m here to tell you that your worries are unfounded too. You can honestly have pretty much anything you want; it’s just all about having proper portions of those things! You can still have pizza, chocolate, wine, chips, cheese! Seriously!
The key to being able to still eat such a huge variety of your favorite foods is that each container represents a generic type of food (veggies, fruits, proteins, carbs, healthy fats, dressings & seeds), and each of those respective containers comes with its own list off all the different options of food that you can choose to fill it with! And believe me when I say the lists are HUGE! Then you can combine these containers together in any way you wish. In fact, you can choose to use half of a container for one food and the other half for another. For example, if you don’t want to have a full green container worth of tomatoes, you can choose to have half tomatoes, half carrots, or whatever you want to choose from the list of ‘Green’ foods!

In the actual Food Guide that you’ll get with The 21 Day Fix, it outlines amounts and quantities of each item as well, since some items (like a slice of bread, etc) won’t fit nicely into a container! So you have all of that laid out for you so it’s soooo simple to understand exactly how much of each food you should be eating!
And then you combine the containers together to create some seriously AWESOME meals! In fact, the majority of the recipes on this blog are all 21 Day Fix friendly! Pretty cool, right? I mean, take a look at just a SAMPLE of some of the recipes you can enjoy on this program…

So you really do get to customize this program to fit whatever way YOU want to eat! If you like simple food, then keep it simple! But if you’re like me and you really enjoy experimenting with new recipes and having a variety of different tastes, then brainstorm away! The sky is the limit for all the recipes you can dream up with this program! And if you like having that variety, but aren’t necessarily the most creative cook, I’m happy to tell you that there are an endless supply of 21 Day Fix friendly recipes online, especially sites like Pinterest! So you can browse away and even find some of your favorite recipes with a healthy new twist!
Even if you’re someone who thinks that they eat pretty healthy already but are frustrated that you’re not seeing the results that you want, this program could benefit you too. It is possible to overeat healthy foods too! For instance, you might be eating too much fruit and not enough protein or vegetables! It can be so hard to really figure out how much is enough vs how much is too much. But the 21 Day Fix takes all the guess work out of it and makes it so incredibly simple to KNOW FOR SURE that you’re eating exactly what your body needs in order to lose weight!
