Alright, y’all, remember the BBQ Sauce I made like last week or somewhere around there that I was completely and totally obsessed with?! Welp, I’ve got an absolutely amaze-balls way to use some of it up!
On BBQ Salmon!!
A little back story on the inspiration for this recipe…Nick and I are big fans of Ruby Tuesday for their salad bar and we go there for lunch quite often. But my favorite meal to get from there is their Hickory Bourbon Salmon! It has an awesome Bourbon BBQ Sauce glaze on it that I’m totally addicted to and would probably eat every day of my life if given the chance. The ONLY problem is that by the time it comes to my table, I’m already so stuffed on all the salad I’ve eaten that I can never finish all of it! I know, that’s not really a problem at all, but you get my point!
Anyways, that is the inspiration behind me wanting to make this BBQ Salmon. And though I didn’t add any bourbon into this sauce, it was still just as amazinggggg (and a bit healthier too!).
Nick and I grilled this Salmon but you can definitely bake it too! We just wanted to stick it out on the grill because we finally got a gas line run outside so that we could hook up our natural gas grill, which is the most wonderful thing in the whole entire world. It’s big and beautiful and sooooo much better at cooking things than our POS Propane Grill that we got for like $50 when we used to have our first apartment! It was very unfortunate to have to grill on that and so now every chance I get, I will be grilling so that I can be reunited with our beloved new grill. Horray!
It’s the little things, guys…
Oh and GRILLING TIP for you guys…When I grill fish, I generally like to cook it on top of thin slices of lemon (or you could do orange too!). This keeps the fish from sticking to the grill grates so that it won’t fall apart on you when you go to take it off!
But back to this Salmon…if you have an all natural BBQ Sauce that you like to use, definitely feel free to use that rather than make your own, but if you have a few extra minutes, making the homemade version is sooooo damn simple and so much better in my opinion!
I marinated my Salmon in some of the BBQ sauce all day so that it soaked in some of the flavor, but if you’re rather forgetful (like I am 99% of the time), then it’d totally be okay to just baste the sauce on the salmon as it cooks too! And then I served mine with some super simple Gorgonzola Creamed Spinach. Nom nom nom. This is warm weather cooking at it’s best, my friends!
But let’s get you this recipe, shall we?!
- 1/2 lb wild caught salmon
- 1/4 cup BBQ Sauce (See notes for my homemade version!) plus more for serving
- Lemon Slices
- Salt & Pepper to Taste
- Pour the BBQ sauce over the salmon and marinate up to 8 hours.
- When ready to cook, preheat your grill. Lay the lemon slices on the grill grates and place the salmon on top. Season with salt and pepper.
- Let cook about 12-15 minutes or until salmon is cooked through.
- Serve with extra sauce if desired.
- 1 cup apple cider vinegar
- 6 oz can tomato paste
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1 tsp liquid hickory smoke
- 1/2 tsp sea salt
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp onion powder
- Combine ingredients in a saucepan
- Bring to a boil over medium heat. Reduce heat and allow to simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
